NRHS students performed at the annual Jazz Concert in the High School Auditorium earlier this month. Performances by the Vocal Jazz Ensemble and the Jazz Band were exciting and showcased a variety of talents.
From fun songs like, "Shoo Fly Pie and Apple Pan Dowdy" to the classic, "Pick Up the Pieces," the Vocal Jazz Group didn't disappoint with their tight-knit harmonies. The Jazz Band wailed on their tunes which included favorites such as, "Blues in the Closet," "Cubano Chant," and "Cold Duck Time."
Showing true support for our students and the fantastic music just performed, audience members leaped to their feet in a standing ovation to end this amazing concert.

Each year, our SDNR Elementary Schools participate in a Career Day, where students get to learn from various members of our community, about their chosen careers. At Hillside this year, students got to hear about medical careers including nursing, radiologic technology, athletic training, orthodontics, and even veterinary science. Additionally, students met with employees from Johnson Motors, NP Design and Photography, WESTconsin Credit Union, Papa Murphy's, and so many more. We even had our NRHS Agriculture Instructor, Rachel Sauvola, come and talk to students about her job as a teacher. Everyone learned so much from each other. Connecting with the community is a fun way to engage our students! Thank you to all who participated in this year's Career Day!

The Introduction to Culinary Arts classes wrapped up not long ago. For their final, students enter the classroom and are presented with a product. They must do their best to replicate the product with no recipe. They can only use the knowledge they have gained throughout the semester.
Students also baked and presented a creative cookie entry to be critiqued for their score. The groups with the highest scores take home the coveted Golden Spoon.
This prized possession is an ongoing tradition of the class, students have various opportunities throughout the semester to sign the spoon, but only ONE group gets to keep it. Congratulations to these students on a job well done! #NRTigers

Congratulations to Paperjack Elementary on receiving the 2023 National Blue Ribbon Award for Exemplary High-Performing Schools! Paperjack Elementary School is one of 353 schools in the nation and one of eight schools from Wisconsin to be recognized in 2023. The recognition is based on a school's overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student groups on assessments.
"The honorees for our 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award have set a national example for what it means to Raise the Bar in education," said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona.
National Blue Ribbon Schools serve as models of effective and innovative school practices for state and district educators and other schools throughout the nation. The U.S. Department of Education recognizes all schools in one of two performance categories, based on all student scores, subgroup student scores, and graduation rates: Exemplary High-Performing Schools (are among their state's highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests) and Exemplary Achievement Gap-Closing Schools (are among their state's highest performing schools in closing achievement gaps between a school's student groups and all students).
Paperjack Elementary will be announced at the awards ceremony on Thursday, November 16, and Friday, November 17, 2023, in Washington DC!
We are proud of Paperjack Elementary for being presented with this honorable award.
Here is what our staff members have to say about receiving the National Blue Ribbon Award:
"I couldn't be more proud and thrilled that Paperjack Elementary has been awarded the Blue Ribbon Award, the most prestigious national award a school can earn! I am truly blessed to be part of an amazing school of students, families, teachers, staff, and leadership!" ~ Heidi Johnson Weyer - 1st Grade Teacher
"Our Paperjack students are amazing - they are artists, musicians, athletes, learners, readers, leaders, and so much more! It felt great to know that Paperjack was selected as a Blue Ribbon School. There are so many bright and loving people that make it a great place to be." ~ Dakkota Mark - Music Teacher
"Honestly, this award is for the people of Paperjack. Whether it's the students, the staff, or the families, this award celebrates the powerful, connected, and loving feeling that breathes through this building. Everyone here makes this school the best community I have ever worked in." ~ Kieran DuHoux - 4th Grade Teacher
"Teaching at Paperjack has been unlike any other workplace I have experienced. It is a school where you can feel the positive energy when you walk through the doors. We are truly part of a team with the common goal of building relationships and taking ownership of the learning and well-being of every person who spends their days here. Being invested in the success and belonging of all makes Paperjack a great place to work and learn each and every day." ~ Jennifer Riordan - 4th Grade Teacher
