General Information About AP Courses
Advanced Placement courses are college courses offered in the high school setting. These courses require rigorous workload and maturity on the part of the student. At the end of the course, college credit may be earned by passing a national test given in May. The approximate cost of each Advanced Placement test is $100.00. The definition of passing is different for each college or university. To determine the score necessary, students should contact their college of interest.
Students should conference with individual AP teachers about specifics related to that class.

Taking the Advanced Placement exams is an important part of all AP courses. Scoring well on an AP exam can often earn students college credit for their high school class, saving a significant amount on tuition. Students that are in Chemistry, Calculus I or 2, Psychology, and/or Statistics for Dual Credit with UW-River Falls should NOT register here unless they plan on taking the AP exam.
For the 2024 AP exams, students at New Richmond High School will be registering online. Online Exam registration is currently open and will end on Wednesday, November 9, 2023 at 11:59 PM. The AP exam registration process is two steps, but both can be completed in one sitting when the student and parent/guardian do this together.
Both these steps must be completed in order to have AP exams ordered:
Step 1: Begin the process by registering at www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/501655. Here you will indicate both the AP courses you are taking this year and the exams you wish to take. You will receive your join codes and directions to complete the second required step. Any exam fees will be paid online so be sure to have a debit card or credit card available. Paying online is a great way to make sure that payment has been made while avoiding mailing payment. If students have not completed this step yet and have not taken an AP class before, they will need to create an account. If they have not completed this step this year but they have taken an AP or PSAT exam before, they will need to login with preexisting login information.
Step 2: Most students already joined their AP classroom during the class period as instructed by their teacher. If you did not do this in class, use the join codes provided at the completion of step one to enroll the student's AP courses and exams in the College Board's system. If you miss the direct link on the confirmation page, you can go to https://myap.collegeboard.org/login
This year each AP exam costs $100.00. Students on free/reduced lunch will have their exam(s) paid for.
