Join us on Thursday, March 13, 2025, for our 18th Annual Empty Bowls Soup Night Fundraising Event. We will have an art, soup, and bake sale in the NRHS Commons from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. You can purchase tickets and learn more by visiting our website.
Empty Bowls is an annual fundraising event for the School District of New Richmond's Happy Kids Backpack Program. This program provides vouchers for fresh food at no cost, and school time snacks, to families under financial hardship throughout the entire school year. The intention is for the food to nourish children over the weekend when school meals are not available. Our program also supports families who otherwise may not be able to provide snacks to their children during the school day.
In the current 2024-2025 school year, the New Richmond Happy Kids Backpack Program is serving around 181 households each week! This is almost 10% growth from last year at this time! The cost for each household is approximately $10-$15 per week. These funds support over 700 family members and we expect the need for our support to grow. Our fundraising event is organized by volunteers and runs on a zero administrative budget. Services and products are donated at little or no cost so that all of the money raised can help others.
None of this would be possible without our volunteers, sponsors, donors, and supportive community! We thank you all for your time and continued support of this great event.

Thirty students representing grades 6, 7, and 8, participated in the Spelling Bee. After 2 hours of tough competition, our top 3 finishers were James in 3rd Place, Nia in 2nd Place, and Johanna as the School Champion. Johanna will represent NRMS in Turtle Lake at the Regional Spelling Bee on February 19. Congratulations to all participants!

We are excited to announce that after months of thoughtful planning and collaboration with many dedicated individuals around the district, the construction phase of our facilities referendum is set to begin in the summer of 2025. Countless staff members, community members, and experts contributed to designing a plan that will greatly enhance our district’s learning environments. As we move forward, we will continue to keep you informed by providing updates on our district website, ensuring that you stay connected to the progress every step of the way.
In order to prioritize student learning and include additional summer construction days, the School District of New Richmond has developed a 2-year school calendar to help staff and families plan ahead for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years. This 2-year school calendar was approved by the SDNR Board of Education on Monday, November 18, 2024.
By sharing the calendars well in advance, we hope to provide ample time for everyone to make any necessary arrangements. These calendars are now available on ourdistrict website, and I encourage you to review them as there are adjustments compared to previous years.

Our School Nutrition Department hosted contracted researchers from the United States Department of Agriculture - School Food Preparation Study. The goal of the study is to learn more about how school nutrition programs are cooking food from scratch and utilizing fresh food in school meals. Our district was one of 36 in the entire U.S. selected for this research, and one of only 12 who had in-person visits! A new record for NRMS!
Since 2017, NRMS students and staff have been making fleece tie blankets for patients of the Cancer Center of Western WI. What started as an idea has grown into a beloved tradition, showing how much can be accomplished when we all work together. Thank you, Mrs. Stellrecht, and all of the others, for helping to make this idea come to life.
This year, our incredible students made 153 blankets - the most ever donated in a single year! These blankets are included in treatment bags given to patients at Cancer Center clinics in New Richmond, Amery, Baldwin, Hudson, Osceola, and St. Croix Falls.
Hearing heartfelt "thank you" messages from recipients reminds us why we do this project: to show students the power of kindness and giving back. With nearly 1,000 total blankets donated since the project's beginning, we're proud of the impact we've made and we are excited to continue for years to come.
If you would like to support our blanket project, donations can be made to the NRMS front office anytime. Together, we make a difference!
